Powell Fansler Looks Forward to the Upcoming Baseball Season

By: Jessica Shusko

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- Left-handed pitcher Powell Fansler (PF) hopes to transfer over his success from last season to the up coming 2013 season. As a junior, Fansler helped the Broncos pick up some key wins, as well as being named WCC Pitcher of the Month in February 2012.  Being halfway through his career here on the Mission campus, Fansler expects the Broncos to have a great season this year under second year head coach, Dan O'Brien.

Be sure to come out and support your Broncos baseball team at their season opener vs. Seattle University at 6 p.m.

SCB: Last year, as a sophomore, you were named WCC Pitcher of the Month in February 2012. What kind of confidence does this give you going into the season this year?

PF: By obtaining this award I am able to enter this new season with the confidence that I can pitch successfully and get people out at this level.

SCB: What have you been doing in the off-season to prepare yourself for the upcoming season?

PF: During this offseason I have been focusing more on the health of my body so that I can start and finish strong. I have also been working on making quick mechanical adjustments so that I can make one-pitch adjustments in games.

SCB: Have you set any goals for yourself and the team for the season?

PF: Yes, our team goal is to play in the post season and this happens from competing every day and continuing to dominate the controllables. My personal goal is to earn my way into the rotation as the Friday or Saturday starter.

SCB: What sort of expectations do you have for yourself and the team this season?

PF: My expectations for the team are that we will come out every day and play with energy and toughness throughout the entire season. The expectations that I have for myself are to maintain focus throughout each day, making one pitch adjustments and to find ways to help better the team when I am not on the mound.

SCB: What are you most looking forward to about this season?

PF: I am most looking forward to the growth of this team. We have a lot of young talent as well as many returners that are going to establish a great environment of working hard and becoming emotionally mature as a whole. Seeing the team grow throughout the season is an amazing experience that I cannot describe, but to say the least, it will be memorable.
