SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the second annual "Shave for Change" day at Schott Stadium , Santa Clara baseball fell to San Diego by a final score of 7-3. The Broncos are now 9-26 overall and 0-13 in conference while the Toreros are 22-15 and 7-6 in WCC action.

The Broncos return to the field tomorrow, Sat., April 20 at 3 p.m. vs. San Diego at Schott Stadium.

Reece Karalus (0-6, 6.26) started for Santa Clara and picked up a no-decision in 7.0-plus innings. Karalus allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Max Deering (1-4, 4.63) picked up the loss in 1.2 innings out of the bullpen. Casey Munoz was 1-2 with two walks. Greg Harisis had a RBI and a walk while Justin Gisch walked twice and scored two runs.

Michael Wagner (1-4, 4.25) started for San Diego and got a no-decision in 6.1 innings. Wagner allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits with five walks and six strikeouts. P.J. Conlon (5-0, 1.65) got the win in 2.0 innings of shutout relief. The offense was led by Kris Bryant who was 1-3 with two walks, two runs scored and a home run. Lucas Hagberg was 1-4 with a pair of RBI and a walk while Conor Joe was 1-3 with two walks and three RBI.

Conor Joe drew a one out walk in the top of the second and Andrew Daniel followed with a single up the middle that just escaped the dive of Justin Viele at short. Logan Davis grounded out 1-4-3 to advance both runners into scoring position but Karalus got a fly ball to right center to end the inning with the score still 0-0.

Gisch drew a one out walk to roll over the lineup and Viele followed with a walk of his own after a nine-pitch battle. Zach Looney hit into a fielder's choice that put runners on the corners with two down. A ball in the dirt got away from the catcher and Gisch aggressively took off from third. He got in just under the tag to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead. Munoz drew the third Santa Clara walk of the inning but Harisis flied out to right.

Bryant blasted his WCC-leading 18^th home run to left that landed on top of the batting cages to tie the game at 1-1.

Joe walked with one out in the top of the seventh and Daniel reached on an infield single to second. Karalus was able to get out of the inning with a pop out and a fly out.

Jose Vizcaino drew a one out walk in the bottom of the seventh and was pinch run for by Kert Woods. Woods swiped second and Gisch drew his second walk of the game on the next pitch. Trevor Bayless came in to pitch and gave up an infield single to Looney with two down. Logan Davis made a diving stop but his flip got past the shortstop and Woods came in to score the go ahead run. Munoz walked on four pitches to load the bases for the Broncos leading hitter Harisis. Harisis walked to force in a run before T.J. Braff went down swinging to end the inning with Santa Clara on top 3-1.

The Broncos failed to catch a pop up to the infield leading off the eighth to put Dillon Haupt on first. Louie Leckich pinch ran at first and Bryant walked to put the first two runners on. Karalus was lifted for the lefty Max Deering who walked A.J. Robinson to load the bases no one out. Hagberg singled to left to bring in a run and keep the bases loaded. Jerod Smith came in to pinch hit and went down looking for the first out. Joe came to the plate and hit into a fielder's choice to tie the game. Santa Clara had a chance to turn two but Viele dropped the transfer. The inning finally ended on a fly ball to center.

Pinch hitter Chris Woolley singled up the middle to start the ninth for the Toreros. After back-to-back fielder's choices, Bryant was intentionally walked to put the go ahead run in scoring position. The bases were loaded on a walk to Robinson and Deering was lifted for D.J. Zapata. Zapata walked Hagberg to force in the go ahead run. Chris Mendoza entered the game to pitch and surrendered the fourth consecutive walk from Santa Clara pitchers to force in another run. Kenny Treadwell entered the game and gave up a two-run single to Joe to blow open the inning. A passed ball moved both runners up but Treadwell got a strikeout to end the inning.

Conlon had a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to close out the game.
