SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Continuing to introduce the next wave of talent, Santa Clara baseball introduces Max Kuhns. Kuhns attended Chaparral High School in Parker, Colo. where he was coached by Tony Persichina.
Chaparral is currently ranked second in the state of Colorado. Kuhn's is hitting .639 with three home runs and a 1.139 slugging percentage. On the mound he is 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA.
As a junior, Kuhns' team went to the playoffs for the first time under Persichina. Kuhns was named his school's Athlete of the Year in 2012 while hitting .500 with eight home runs. He was named First-Team All-League, First-Team All-State and First-Team All-Academic.
As a sophomore Kuhns batted .462 with four home runs and was named Second-Team All-League.
Kuhns is a member of the National Honor Society, was named Academic-All State for baseball and football and is a three-time Academic Letter winner.
Kuhns comes from a family rich with sports history. His grandfather Dan Avis played basketball at Cleveland State. He also has several cousins that played collegiate athletics. Freddy Avis played baseball at Stanford, Charlie Avis was a member of the Princeton cycling team, Elliot Avis played lacrosse at Wittenberg, Mackie Avis played lacrosse at Kenyon, Gabe Avis played lacrosse at Kenyon and Emily played volleyball at Williams.
