Today, Bronco baseball announces the sixth member of its incoming class of freshman for 2014-15, Evan Haberle. The shortstop/outfielder currently attends Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore.
"Baseball is a big part of my life and Coach O'Brien and his staff are creating an amazing program at Santa Clara," Haberle said. "I look forward to being a part of that program."
In 2013, Haberle batted .535 for the Jesuit Crusaders, a team that reached the second round of the Oregon State Baseball Tournament. The 6-foot-1, 172-pound prospect was one of only five non-seniors named to the 2013 Oregon Class 6A All-State First Team. He was also named to the Metro 6A All-Conference First Team and earned Jesuit High School's Offensive Player of the Year Award.
"Evan is a premium athlete who can play just about any position on the field," pitching coach/recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "He is a guy that could hit at the top of the lineup in a hurry. We are super excited to get a player from such a great high school program in Portland Jesuit. Evan adds speed that you can't teach and a fearless approach at the plate that has made him successful against some of the best talent in the country."
In summer 2013, Haberle played for Mound Time baseball, and in winter 2013, he played for Capital City Select baseball. He also participated in the 2013 Area Code Games on the Royals team and has played for the Seattle Mariners Scout Team.
Off the diamond, Haberle has volunteered in several different programs, including Boys and Girls Club as well as a summer camp for disabled children. His hobbies include running, working out, travel and cooking.
Haberle plans to study in the Leavey School of Business, and his career goals include playing professional baseball.
"My fundamentals for a university were that it excelled in preparing its students for life after college and I wanted a top-notch business school that was known to prepare its students adequately for future jobs in the challenging job market," Haberle said.
