SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Before Santa Clara takes to the diamond to start the 2014 season, Bronco Baseball will host its Kick Off Weekend Feb. 7 and 8. The weekend features a golf outing at Pasatiempo Golf Club, a bocce ball tournament, a banquet following the tournament and the annual alumni game.
"It creates some serious chaos to have this event a week before our home opener, but I wouldn't have it any other way," Head Coach Dan O'Brien said. "I love the passion and energy it creates not only for our alumni but for the entire Bronco baseball family as well. It's an awesome event and a great time of year. My bocce ball game isn't the best, but I'll find a way."
The golf outing will be held on Fri., Feb. 7 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz. Start time is 11:00 a.m. and features consecutive tee times. Cost for the event includes green fee, a cart, a box lunch and range balls.
The bocce ball tournament will be held on Friday night from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Campo Di Bocce in Los Gatos. Participants have the option to play, eat and drink OR eat and drink only. The evening will consist of the tournnament, a full dinner, an open bar, a fundraiser auction, a presentation by Head Coach Dan O'Brien and a special guest speaker.
Kick off weekend concludes with the annual alumni game, in which current Broncos take on former Santa Clara baseball players. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Stephen Schott Stadium, and admission is free for the public.
