Bronco Baseball Team Starts First Day of Practice At Hospital - Read Why

"The game of ball is glorious,"

       Walt Whitman

The Bronco baseball team kicked off their first day of practice this season in an unusual way.

Santa Clara's baseball team was set to take the field this afternoon for its first practice this season.  But before taking the field for their intra-squad scrimmage this evening, the entire team and coaches and staff took a quick bus ride up to Palo Alto Friday afternoon to meet the staff, doctors and patients of the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.  They are the same staff, doctors and patients the Bronco baseball team works with to help raise money for during the season with the Bronco's Shave for Change event.

"We're obviously doing this first and foremost for the patients, the doctors, and the staff," said Bronco head coach Dan O'Brien.  "But this is also for our players.  We're encouraging them to maintain perspective as they start their season, as well as hopefully develop their compassion and service for those less fortunate."
