T.J. Braff Gears Up for Final Season

Written by Jefferson Reese '15

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Senior first baseman and outfielder T.J. Braff (TB) took some time to speak with Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) about entering his final season on the baseball team. Last season, Braff took over first base in April after an injury to senior Mac Hess, and hit safely in 16 of 20 starts while recording 20 RBIs during that span alongside a spotless 1.000 fielding percentage at first base.

SCB: Knowing that this will be your final season, how have you prepared for it?

TB: It started with my summer experience in Ohio where I was able to work on some things at the plate as well as defensively.  I tried to come in to this season in good shape, and ready to work in the fall. I couldn't be more excited for the season.  With this being my final season, I want to have no regrets looking back.

SCB: How can the team build on last year's performance?

TB: Last year it felt like we were never out of a game. No matter what the score was, the game always felt close.  We can build on last year's season by remembering to always fight back in games while also being able to close them out when we are ahead.

SCB: What are the team's goals heading into the season?

TB: Coach O'Brien preaches hard work and doing the right thing, so each day at practice we are always trying to get better than the day before. We want to build off last year's performance, and see if we can go even further.

SCB: What are your personal goals?

TB: I want to be a key contributor to the team, whether that is with my bat, with my glove, or by giving a younger player some advice. I will do whatever I can do to help our team win.

SCB: What has been your favorite moment as a Bronco?

TB: My favorite moment was when we beat Saint Mary's last year and were guaranteed a spot in the WCC playoffs.
