Broncos in the Field

Three Bronco starters are hitting .300 or better through 12 games: John Cresto (.354), Stevie Berman (.333) and Jake Brodt (.306). Cresto leads the team with 17 hits; nine of which have gone for extra bases (four doubles, one triple, four home runs). Cresto hit homers in seventh and ninth innings of Santa Clara's 2-1 win over Washington last Saturday.

Half of Berman's 14 hits have gone for extra bases (four doubles, three home runs). The catcher leads Santa Clara starters with a .471 on-base percentage entering the weekend.

Brodt is tied for second on the team with six RBIs and is 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts to lead all Broncos.

As a team, the Broncos had six doubles and three home runs in three games last weekend. Santa Clara is 10-for-13 on stolen bases attempts and is holding opponents to 8-for-16 in that category.

Broncos on the Mound

Mitchell White struck out a career-high nine batters for the second straight outing Saturday at Washington and allowed an earned run in 7.0 innings. He has struck out 25 batters in 20.2 innings this season.

Steven Wilson gave up seven runs (four earned) and pitched 3.0 innings in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader at Washington. Wilson has allowed 13 runs in 6.2 innings between his last two starts.

Michael Bono is set to make his third start of the season and first weekend start for the Broncos. Bono has pitched 2.2+ innings in three of his four outings, and allowed one earned run or fewer in all four appearances this season.

Max Kuhns remains tied for second in the nation with five saves; he earned a save in Santa Clara's only win at Washington. Kuhns entered the week as one of seven pitchers in the country with five or more saves.

Milestone Watch

Bronco head coach Dan O'Brien needs two wins to reach 100 career victories at SCU. The earliest O'Brien could reach the milestone is Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.

UMass Lowell

The River Hawks won two of three games last weekend at the Bob Hannah Invitational. They picked up a 3-0 victory over Delaware State on Saturday and a 5-3 victory over Delaware on Sunday. UMass Lowell lost a pair of 4-2 games against No. 17 Mississippi State to open up its season two weekends ago.

Freshman Steve Passatempo has hit five home runs in seven games this season, and leads the team with 13 RBIs, a 1.040 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage. Andrew Ryan is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in 14.0 innings this year; he pitched 7.0 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts in UMass Lowell's shutout of Delaware State. Passatempo has earned back-to-back America East Rookie of the Week honors and Ryan earned America East co-Pitcher of the Week honors

2016 Schedule Notes

Santa Clara defeated a ranked opponent on opening weekend for the second straight season by defeating No. 24 Notre Dame 2-0 on Saturday, Feb. 20 and 4-2 on Sunday, Feb. 21. The Broncos won a Saturday contest at defending national champion and unanimous preseason No. 1 Vanderbilt last year.

Santa Clara played seven of its first eight games at home; the only road game in that stretch was a Tuesday win at San José State on Feb. 23.

The Broncos have 13 games in 17 days to start the season.

Santa Clara is slated to play four-game weekends four times during a five-weekend span from the end of February through the end of March.

The Broncos face 2015 WCC postseason champion Pepperdine at home and 2015 WCC regular season champion San Diego on the road during consecutive weekends in April.
