HONOLULU — Santa Clara baseball had Hawai'i down to its last strike in the ninth inning of Saturday's matchup at Les Murakami Stadium, and the Rainbow Warriors walked off on an RBI single and Bronco error to win 3-2. Alan Baldwin took a 2-2 pitch to right center field to drive in the tying run and Santa Clara center fielder Kert Woods mishandled the baseball, which allowed the game-winning run to score.

The Broncos (9-12) took an early lead on Jake Brodt's leadoff home run to left center field in the second inning. Neither Santa Clara nor its opponent had hit a home run in the previous nine games.

Tyler Meditz led off the third with a triple and scored on Grant Meylan's RBI groundout to put the Broncos ahead 2-0. Meditz added a double for a two hit night and Brodt also finished with two hits. Hawai'i leadoff hitter Matt LoCoco went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Rainbow Warriors (11-13) scored their first run in the sixth on Jonathan Weeks' RBI sacrifice fly. Weeks drove in LoCoco, who hit a one out triple against Santa Clara starter Steven Wilson. Both Wilson and Alex Hatch tossed quality starts — Wilson allowed an earned run in 6.2 innings and Hatch gave up two earned runs in 7.1 innings; neither factored in to the decision.

Cody Culp (W, 1-1) took over for Hatch with one out in the seventh after the Hawai'i starter hit consecutive Bronco batters. The reliever retired two of the next three hitters he faced and got Woods to line out to center and leave the bases loaded. Max Kuhns (L, 0-3) issued a 1-2-3 eighth and remained on the hill to try and close out the game in the ninth.

The Broncos and Rainbow Warriors finish their four-game series Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. PDT. Jason Seever (2-1, 3.63 ERA) makes the start for Santa Clara.
