Two Baseball Student-Athletes Earn WCC All-Academic Honors

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball had two student-athletes recognized by the West Coast Conference on Monday as the league announced the 2016-17 WCC All-Academic honorees. Senior Tyler Meditz was one of 13 student-athletes named to the WCC All-Academic Team. Redshirt sophomore Alex Barden earned honorable mention distinction.

Meditz boasts a 3.480 cumulative GPA as a finance major. He started every game for the Broncos during the 2017 season as a left fielder and scored 29 runs (third on the team) and stole six bases (second on the team). Meditz was also named to the WCC All-Academic honorable mention team in 2016.

Barden, a left-handed pitcher, owns a 3.493 GPA and is pursuing a degree in business. The sophomore made 17 appearances on the mound during the season and pitched 25.2 innings.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to his team.
