Baseball Fall Season Update

Baseball Fall Season Update
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball first-year head coach Rusty Filter gave an update on the progress of fall ball after practice on Wednesday.  Filter and his staff led a spirited practice session with the head coach taking the mound in the latter portion of practice.

"The work ethic and the work rate of the players have been really good.  They're giving the coaching staff everything they they've got, all the time.  I'm very happy with the interaction between the players and the coaching staff and the team buying into what we're doing so far," said Filter.

Filter's coaching staff consisting of assistants Jon Karcich and Tanner Swanson along with volunteer assistant Greg Gonzalez are all in their first season coaching at Santa Clara, with Karcich having played for Santa Clara from 2007-09.

"As a staff, we're trying to find ways to make sure we are competing everyday.  We usually end each day splitting the team into two groups. There's a winner and a loser and we create a reward from that.  They've responded to it really well," said Filter.  "The strength of the team is we have more game experience, more at-bats and more innings pitched than a lot of teams in the conference, not that we've been successful yet, but there's no substitute for experience.  It's just been a really competitive environment and I'm pleased with that."
