SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball head coach Rusty Filter announced the hiring of B.K. Santy, who coached a pair of high selections in the Major League Baseball Draft, as an assistant coach.
Santy will coach the catchers and outfielders as well as serve as the first base coach for the Broncos.
"B.K. brings a wealth of knowledge to our program. He's coming to us with great recommendations from Dave Esquer, where B.K. was on his Cal staff last season, and Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg." said Filter.
Santy joins the Broncos from the University of Utah, where he was a volunteer assistant coach.
"B.K. really enjoys coaching and spending time with the players. He's going to help us in our quest to change the culture and build the program. We are extremely excited to have him come on board," said Filter.
Prior to Santy's stint at Utah, he spent two seasons at the University of California as first base coach and working primarily with the catchers. In 2016, Cal catcher Brett Cumberland earned All-America honors, was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and a Golden Spikes semifinalist, before being selected in the second-round of the MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves.
In 2015, Santy was the catching coach at Palomar College helping Palomar reach the state Final Four Championships in the California Community College Athletic Association. Catcher Francis Christy was the ABCA Pacific Association Division Player of the Year and a first-team All-American. He was a seventh-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Santy also served as the graduate assistant at the University of San Diego before his time at Palomar.
The San Diego, California native, played two seasons (2011-12) at the University of Washington, making 80 starts among 91 appearances with all but one start coming behind the dish. He hit .285 with 32 RBI and 12 doubles with the Huskies. Santy transferred to Washington from Palomar, where he was a first-team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference selection as a sophomore.
Santy received his bachelor's degree in history from Washington before obtaining a master's degree in education from East Central University.
