SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the 13th member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2018-19 season, Luke Tillmann.  The right-handed pitcher currently attends Archbishop Mitty High School of the West Catholic Athletic League in San Jose, California.  

 

"I chose Santa Clara because growing up in nearby San Jose, I've known that it is an amazing school. With a degree from Santa Clara, I can have a career anywhere around the Bay Area at any major company.  I also love the vision and leadership Coach Rusty Filter has for the program, I know he's going to do great things with the resources, players, and the coaching staff he has around him. With the great education and the huge potential that the Santa Clara baseball program has, it was a no-brainer for me to become a Bronco," said Tillmann.  

 

In Tillmann's junior season, the six-foot-two pitcher helped lead the Monarchs to the semifinals of the Central Coast Section playoffs.  On the season, Tillmann struck out 34 batters over 38 innings while holding the opposition to a .225 batting average.  

 

"Luke is another right-handed pitcher that signed with us from the WCAL.  He throws from a three quarter arm slot in the upper 80s. His delivery creates deception and sink which results in a high number of ground balls. We see Luke filling numerous roles on our pitching staff.  Luke is very competitive and pounds the strike zone and that is exactly what we are looking for," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.
