Baseball Shut Out By Saint Mary’s in Sunday's Rubber Match
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball was shut out 7-0 by Saint Mary's in the rubber match of the West Coast Conference series on Sunday, losing back-to-back games for the first time this season.  
 
Santa Clara (14-7, 3-3 WCC) bats were silenced by Saint Mary's (12-8, 3-3 WCC) starter Ken Waldichuk and reliever Andrew Hansen who combined to allow just six hits and four walks while striking out 10 Broncos.  
 
From the second inning out, the Broncos managed to get a runner on base every inning but none of them reached third base until the ninth inning.  
 
Jake Brodt (2-for-4), who started at third for the second Sunday in a row, was the only Bronco who got multiple hits.  The senior who is the regular Bronco first baseman singled in the sixth and eighth innings.  
 
Saint Mary's got on the scoring column in the fourth inning on a solo home run by designated hitter Kevin Milam, off Santa Clara starter Travis Howard who pitched a season-high 6.0 innings.  
 
In the fifth, the Gaels added to their lead on Edward Haus' two-run double to make it 3-0.  Haus drove in another run in the seventh, as part of a three run inning for Saint Mary's.  The Gael second baseman finished with a game-high three RBIs and three hits.  
 
Waldichuk (4-1) picked up the win for Saint Mary's while Howard (1-1) was saddled with the loss.  
 
The Broncos will look to bounce back on Tuesday when it travels to Nevada to face the Wolf Pack.  First pitch is 2 p.m. PT.
