Baseball Loses Midweek Road Game To Nevada, 5-3
RENO, Nev. – Nevada baseball scored the go ahead run in the eighth inning on a Tyler Bosetti RBI triple as Santa Clara lost, 5-3, in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Peccole Park.

With the game tied 3-3 in the eighth, the Wolf Pack (13-8) scored the go ahead run against Bronco (14-8) right-hander Penn Murfee who was working his third inning in relief.  After retiring the first two batters and getting ahead 0-2 in the count, Murfee allowed a single to Nevada's seventh hitter, Cole Krzmarzick.  The next batter Tyler Bosetti jumped on the first pitch for a triple bringing home Krzmarzick.  Bosetti scored on the play on a throwing error by Bronco shortstop Austin Reyes to give the Wolf Pack a two run cushion, 5-3.

The bottom half of the Wolf Pack lineup did most of the damage, getting six of the nine hits while driving in and scoring all its runs.

Santa Clara went down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning against Nevada reliever Keone Cabinian to drop its third game in a row.

The Broncos opened the scoring in the second frame when Lucas Eliason (1-for-4, R, RBI) hit a grounder scoring Niko Holm (1-for-3, R) for its only lead of the game.  The Wolf Pack answered in the bottom half of the inning on a Bosetti RBI single against Bronco starter Freddie Erlandson, scoring Krzmarzick to tie the game up, 1-1.  Erlandson made his first start of the season allowing three hits and a run in three innings while striking out four.

After the Wolf Pack went up 3-1 in the fourth, the Broncos came back to tie things up in the top half of the fifth on doubles by Eliason, Grant Meylan (1-for-4, R, RBI) and Jason Dicochea (3-for-5, RBI) knocking out Wolf Pack starter Dalton Gomez.

Tied 3-3, Santa Clara thwarted a couple of Wolf Pack threats in the fifth and sixth innings thanks to the defensive plays by Eliason, who was making just his second start of the season behind the dish.

In the bottom of the fifth, with runners at first and second, Eliason back picked Daniel Perry at second.  And in the sixth, Eliason threw out Chase Grant at third on a stolen base attempt as part of a strike 'em out throw 'em out double play.

Dicochea and Joe Becht (2-for-3, 2 SBs) had multiple hits for the Broncos.  Dicochea now has seven hits in his last 14 at-bats.  Meanwhile, Becht extended his consecutive base reached streak to 22 games, reaching safely in all game this season.  Becht also stole two bases adding to his West Coast Conference leading total with nine steals on the year.

Murfee (4-1) took the loss for the Broncos, his first this season.  Jordan Jackson (1-1) picked up the win after retiring one batter in the eighth and Cabinian earned his third save of the season.

The Broncos have a quick turnaround hosting Portland starting on Thursday night.  First pitch is at 6 p.m. PT.
