Baseball Hosts No. 2 Stanford Marking Midway Point Of Season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball renews its most played rivalry matchup when it welcomes the No. 2-ranked Stanford Cardinal to Schott Stadium Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. first pitch. Tuesday's contest marks the 368th meeting between the storied programs, who first met on the baseball diamond in 1892.  Santa Clara is 2-1 in midweek games this season.

First year Bronco head coach Rusty Filter was the longtime associate head coach at Stanford under the legendary Mark Marquess having spent the previous eight years at The Farm where he was among the top pitching coaches in the nation.  Filter helped the Cardinal reach the NCAA Tournament five times, including three trips to the Super Regional, and developed 20 pitchers who were selected in the MLB Draft for Marquess who retired last season as the fourth-winningest coach in NCAA Division I history.

Along with Filter, current Bronco assistant coach Jon Karich also coached at Stanford.  In the last two years under Karcich, the Cardinal recorded some of the best defensive seasons in program history. In 2017, Stanford posted the No. 15 ranked fielding percentage in the nation at .980, recording just 45 errors in 58 games. In 2016, Stanford finished No. 1 in the nation with a school record fielding percentage of .983, and also finished with the fewest errors in program history (35 in 54 games).
