Baseball – Three Broncos Recognized With All-WCC Honors
West Coast Conference Release

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Three Santa Clara baseball players garnered All-West Coast Conference honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Senior Jake Brodt was named second team All-WCC with fellow seniors Joe Becht and Steven Wilson recognized as honorable mentions.

The all-conference selection is based on the player's performance in the conference games and selected by the 10 conference head coaches.

For Brodt, this marks the second time he has been honored by the conference and the first such honor for both Becht and Wilson.

Brodt, a first baseman from Huntington Beach, California, was named first team all-conference as a junior in 2017.  The six-foot-five, 230-pound senior slugged seven home runs in conference play to lead the league and tied for first in doubles with 10 along with driving in 30 runs for the second highest total.

Becht, a utility player from Downers Grove, Illinois, earned his first conference recognition, safely reaching base in 50 of 52 games including in all 27 conference contests.  The senior hit .314 in conference games while posting a .435 on-base percentage while primarily patrolling the centerfield.

Wilson, a right-handed pitcher from Littleton, Colorado, earned his first conference recognition, posting a 1-1 record with three saves and a 3.58 ERA in 10 conference games, starting in six of them.  The sixth-year senior struck out 40 batters in 32 2/3 innings.

Pepperdine, the regular season conference champion, took home four of the five major hardwares: Jordan Qsar was named WCC Player of the Year, Jonathan Pendergast was named WCC Pitcher of the Year, Cooper Chandler was named Freshman of the Year and Rick Hirtensteiner was named Coach of the Year.  LMU's Cooper Uhl was named Defensive Player of the Year.
