SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball trio of Alex Barden, Freddie Erlandson and Steven Wilson were named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
The WCC recognizes student-athletes who have earned at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or important reserve on the team, and have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed.
Barden, a senior left-handed pitcher, boasts a 3.528 grade point average as a finance major. The Danville, California, native posted a 1-2 record with a 4.13 ERA in 16 appearances this past season holding the opponents to a .196 batting average. Barden was the 2018 opening day starter and also got the starting nod on Senior Day.
Erlandson, a junior right-handed pitcher, has a 3.425 GPA as a business finance major. Erlandson tied for second on the team in wins with four, pitched the third most innings on the team (57.1 IP) among his 21 appearances.
Wilson has a 3.614 GPA in graduate school studying business analytics. The sixth-year right-handed pitcher is a two-time WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention in 2015 and 2016. This season, the Littleton, Colorado, native had a 4-1 record with four saves. He made nine starts out of his 16 appearances, leading the team in strikeouts with 58 and a 3.07 ERA.
