Baseball Drops Series Finale to San Jose State on Monday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball and San Jose State combined for 30 runs and 33 hits but the Broncos came up on the short end to lose 20-10 in the series finale on Monday at Stephen Schott Stadium.  
 
San Jose State (3-0) scored in each of the first seven frames including six runs with two outs in the sixth inning to turn a one run deficit to a 13-8 lead.  They added seven more in the seventh to break the game open.  For the game, the Spartans collected 19 hits and took advantage of 16 walks issued by the Broncos pitching staff.  
 
In the fourth inning with the game tied at 6-all,  Jason Dicochea's (2-for-5, 2R, RBI) solo home run momentarily gave the lead to the Broncos (0-3).  The Broncos added another run when Austin Reyes (1-for-2, R, 3 RBIs) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push a run across for an 8-6 lead.  
 
With the Broncos holding on to a 8-7 lead in the sixth, reliever Michael Praszker quickly got two outs to open the inning.  However, the Spartans strung together five hits in the frame including RBI singles by Kellen Strahm (3-for-5, 3 R, RBI), Blake Berry (3-for-4, 3 R, 3 RBIs), James Shimashita (2-for-6, 3 RBIs) and a 2-RBI triple by Johnny Mendoza (4-for-5, 2 R, 4 RBIs) to take a 13-8 lead.  
 
For the Broncos, Ryan McCarthy (3-for-6, 2 R) and Dawson Brigman (3-for-5) each collected three hits.  Freshman Matt Jew (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs) also got a pair of hits for the third time in the series.  
 
Anders Davidson (1-0) was credited for the win and Praszker (0-1) took the loss.

The Broncos host Pac-12's Washington State on Thursday at 6 p.m.
