Baseball Loses to Pacific in Series Finale on Sunday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Pacific jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, taking the series finale 11-3 over Santa Clara baseball on Sunday to win the series.
 
Pacific (14-28, 4-14) pounded out 14 hits with every starter in the lineup getting at least one hit.  Leadoff batter Thomas Gavello went 3-for-5 while James Arakawa, Jeremy Lea and Wyatt Hoffman each had two hits.
 
The Tigers scored four runs in the opening frame on four singles and an error against Broncos starter Locke Bernhardt.  The first three hitters in the lineup, Gavello, Arakawa and Charles Middleton singled to start the game and they all plated.  The trio scored two runs each along with the fifth batter Ben Nemivant.
 
Santa Clara (14-27, 7-17) got on the board in the third on Coleman Brigman's RBI single and added a pair of runs in the fourth on RBI base hits by Tony Boetto and Dawson Brigman to get within a run at 4-3.
 
However, the Tigers had a productive late inning scoring two runs each in the sixth and the seventh and added three more in the eighth with five different players driving in runs.  Lea and McClenaghan drove in two runs to pace the Tigers which had eight players with an RBI.  
 
Dylan Pottgieser (1-0) who came in the fifth with a 4-3 lead tossed three scoreless innings giving up just one hit to pick up the win.
 
Bernhardt (2-2) took the loss for the Broncos giving up the four runs over three innings.  
 
Matt Jew went 3-for-4 and Dawson Brigman got two hits for the Broncos.  
 
NEXT UP
Monday's game against Arizona has been canceled due to logistical hurdles with scheduling.  The Broncos will next play at Pepperdine (May 14-16).
