Baseball Opens Series With Win Over San Francisco

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball stayed hot and won its seventh game in a row 4-3 over San Francisco Friday night from Schott Stadium.

With the score tied at three after the Dons (16-24, 7-15 WCC) had scored two in the top of the seventh, the Broncos (25-15, 11-8 WCC) put runners on the corners with one out before Dawson Brigman laid down a perfect bunt to bring home the game-winning run.

Eamonn Lance and JonJon Berring both had two hit nights with Lance adding a solo home run and Berring scoring a run. Efrain Manzo had a double and two RBIs as well.

Blake Hammond threw the last 3 2/3 innings to collect the win. Hammond (6-1) allowed two runs on two hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Starter Cole Kitchen got a no-decision in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed a run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Blake Atkins had the biggest hit of the night for the Dons, a two-run single that tied the game in the seventh. Harris Williams III added a pair of hits and Ryan Martinez had a home run and two runs scored.

Jesse Barron (4-4) started for San Francisco and took the loss. In 6 1/3 innings, he allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
