Men's Basketball Alumni Game Scheduled

Jan. 10, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Former Bronco men's basketball players will have their first opportunity to play in the new Leavey Center with the revival of the annual alumni game, scheduled for Saturday, January 20 at 3:30 p.m.

Approximately 30 former Santa Clara players spanning three decades are scheduled to participate. The game will be followed by an invitation-only dinner and the Santa Clara vs. San Francisco game that night.

"There is no question that the players are the foundation of our program," said Head Coach Dick Davey. "It is sure going to be a lot of fun to get everybody together and see exactly what kind of shape some of these guys are in.

"Seriously, we don't underestimate the importance of our former players and the impact they have each made on our basketball program. I hope we can do more things like this to keep them involved in Santa Clara athletics."

Confirmed participants include Bud Ogden, who scored a school-record 55 points against Pepperdine in 1967, Mitch Burley, who knocked-down a school-record eight three-point field goals against Nevada in 1988, Eddie Joe Chavez, who is second on the school list behind Steve Nash in assists, and six members of the 1993 squad that upset second-seeded Arizona in the NCAA Tournament. A complete list of participants will be available on www.SantaClaraBroncos.com as the event nears.
