Davey Postgame Press Conference

Recap| Box Score

Santa Clara Head Coach Dick Davey
"Guys stepped up and made some shots. We have gone through some tremendous droughts offensively this year. We were able to hit some shots in the second half. It always makes you look like you are doing a better job offensively when the shots go in the basket. We played more guys and kept guys a little fresher tonight. We did that with the idea in mind that we were playing Friday and Saturday night on the road and we'd have a little more depth available.

"(Steve Ross) has a lot of potential. Defensively is where we are most concerned right now. But, offensively he is capable of stepping up and shooting the ball. He really hasn't played much in two years. About seven or eight games ago he became eligible (Dec.18). He can shoot the ball a little bit.

"We aren't that great of a free throw shooting team. But, thank God we shot them tonight. Maybe (our players) watched the Stanford game today and saw how many they were making and thought it might be a good idea to try to do that tonight.

"San Diego is one of the contenders and so was Pepperdine. That was a big game for the conference tonight. I think maybe people are right Gonzaga might be a step above everybody else, especially with Dickau back now. But, I think at home anybody can beat almost anybody this year. Obviously Steve (Aggers) has done a great job of turning (LMU) into a team that can win ballgames here. People are going to have to come in here and play to win."
