Santa Clara 77, Portland 65

Brian Jones "We were worried that we might not come out with the same intensity as we do when we play a higher profile team. But, you have to give Portland credit. They are a good team and they came out with a good effort today. As long as we got the 'w' the way we did, I think we feel like we can go into San Diego and win three games.

Dick Davey "Portland was very efficient in what they did. They play very smart and they are starting to really upgrade the things they are doing. To their credit, they are buckling under. They keep playing hard. I thought we had a very average performance today from the standpoint of efficiency. We didn't make shots. Our defense was not as tenacious as it was on Thursday night (against Gonzaga). The intensity of Thursday could have had some effect on our performance today. I am not usually one to subscribe to that, but today it really could have had an effect. My respect goes out to the Portland kids and their coaching staff. They really kept it together. I think they are going to be dangerous in the WCC Tournament. Anyone who might look past them might be in trouble."
