Two Broncos Named First-Team All-WCC in Men's Hoops

Feb. 26, 2001

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara seniors Brian Jones and Jamie Holmes were selected by the league coaches as members of the 2001 West Coast Conference All-Conference Team, the league office announced today.

Jones, a three-time all-WCC selection, is the league leader in steals with an average of 2.11 per game and is second in assists (4.18) and fourth in scoring (15.8). He is four assists shy of former Santa Clara star Steve Nash's career assist record and last week became the first player in WCC history as well as the first in the history of Division I college basketball in the state of California to record 1,500 career points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.

Holmes, who began his career at San Francisco as a redshirt freshman in 1995-96, is a first-time recipient of the honor. A native of Merced, Holmes is second in the league in rebounding with an average of 7.4 per game. He is also eighth in scoring, with an average of 13.9 points per game. Holmes is also the league's fourth-best shooter both from the field and the free throw line.

Santa Clara ended the regular season Saturday with a 77-65 victory over Portland to improve its record to 18-11 on the season and 10-4 in the WCC. The Broncos finished league play in third-place and will face sixth-seeded Loyola Marymount in the first round of the WCC Tournament Saturday at 6 p.m. in San Diego.
