Jones Named to NABC All-District Team

March 7, 2001

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Santa Clara University senior Brian Jones was named to the NABC/Chevrolet Division I All-District 14 team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the organization announced.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across the country. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the NABC/Chevrolet Division I All-American Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2000-2001 NCAA men's basketball season.

Jones, a guard from Carson, Calif., was one of 10 players named to the all-district first and second teams. He is joined by three players from Stanford, two from Gonzaga and one each from Cal, Oregon, Utah State and Oregon State.

"It is a testament to Brian's work ethic and competitive nature to be included on the NABC all-district team," said Santa Clara Head Coach Dick Davey. "Brian is easily one of the most competitive and toughminded players I have ever coached. He has made quite an impact on our program over the last five years and has earned the right to be compared with the top players in the country."

A three-time all-West Coast Conference selection, this season Jones became the first player in the history of Division I college basketball in the state of California and the first in WCC history to compile over 1,500 career points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in a career. In last weekend's WCC Tournament, he surpassed former Santa Clara star Steve Nash's school record for career assists and is third on the Bronco scoring charts.
