Men's Basketball Standout Named Academic All-WCC

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara University junior forward Justin Holbrook was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Men's Basketball Team, the league announced at its recent postseason tournament.

A native of Cottage Grove, Ore., Holbrook was one of a league-high five Santa Clara men's and women's players named to the teams. On the women's side, Broncos Becki Ashbaugh, Annie Garrison, Caroline Gruening and Kim Sorenson earned the honor.

Holbrook finished the regular season averaging 8.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game and tied with Brian Jones for second on the team in three-point field goals with 43. He led the team and is fourth in the conference in three-point percentage and was one of the team's top shooters from the field.

He was a key performer in Santa Clara's 20-12 squad that advanced to the WCC Tournament championship game. The Broncos dropped a narrow 80-77 decision to regular-season champion Gonzaga in the title game and are awaiting word on postseason chances. Santa Clara finished the regular season with a 10-4 mark, good for third-place in the conference standings.

During the WCC Tournament, Holbrook shot an impressive 69 percent from the field and was seven-for-12 from beyond the three-point stripe. He averaged 11.3 points in just 18.3 minutes per game.
