Game Notes vs. Purdue

- Senior guard Brian Jones did not play in the game due to a one-game suspension for a violation of unspecified team rules.

- Junior transfer Steve Ross entered the game at the 8:52 mark of the first period. He played 22 minutes, scored four points and grabbed three rebounds. He arrived in West Lafayette at 5 p.m. today. The last time he played in a college basketball game was the first exhibition of the 1999-2000 season while a sophomore at the University of San Diego. He scored 19 points in that game against the California All-Stars but suffered a fractured foot the next week in practice. He transferred to Camosun JC in Victoria, B.C. but did not play basketball. He transferred to Santa Clara for the fall semester and became eligible to participate today (Dec. 18).

- At one points late in the first half, all five SCU players on the court were first-year players in the Bronco basketball program. Steve Ross and Jason Westphal were at the forward position, Jim Howell was at center and Jason Morrissette and Kyle Bailey were at the guard spots.

- Purdue's 53-point first half were the most given up by SCU in a half since Gonzaga scored 56 second-half points on Jan. 15, 2000 in a 97-67 loss in Spokane.

- Santa Clara's 20 first half points tied for the fewest in a half since scoring 16 against San Francisco on 12/30/98. SCU scored 20 points in a half three times since then, including a 20-point second half at Pacific earlier this season.

- The 46-point margin of victory for Purdue marked the worst loss in Santa Clara men's basketball history. The previous worst losses were 45-points at the hands of Brigham Young (91-46) in 1967-68 and Stanford (94-49) in 1988-99

- Nine different players scored for Santa Clara, tying the Pacific contest for the most in a game this season.
