Canada Basketball head coach Jay Triano announced that former Santa Clara star and current Dallas Mavericks point guard Steve Nash will be among the 12-man roster that will compete in the 2001 COPABA Tournament of the Americas in Neuquen, Argentina.

The tournament opens for the Canadian squad on August 16, 2001 against the US Virgin Islands.

The team is vying for one of five positions open in the COPABA zone for the 2002 World Championship of Basketball to be played in August 2002 in Indianapolis, IN.

There are seven athletes from the 2000 Canadian Olympic team, including Nash. The Victoria, BC native was one of the top performers in last year's Olympic Games and led the Mavericks through a successful playoff run last season in the NBA.

"The competition in the COPABA tournament is always fierce," said Jay Triano. "I would expect no less this year. We have established ourselves as one of the premier teams and have prepared ourselves for this tournament."
