SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Santa Clara University men's basketball team returns to the Bay Area for the first time since Nov. 27 to play in the annual Stanford Invitational Tuesday and Wednesday at Maples Pavilion (capacity 7,391).

The Broncos will play Portland State in the first game of the tournament at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings are 3-5 on the season with wins over Boise State, Arizona State and Portland. Stanford (4-1) will play Belmont (4-3) in the second game at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, the consolation game will be played at 4:30 p.m. with the championship game tipping-off at 7 p.m. The title game will be televised live locally on KRON-TV.

Santa Clara is 1-6 on the season following back-to-back losses at undefeated Ohio State and Wright State last week in Ohio. The starting five for the Broncos is expected to be Steve Ross and Jordan Legge at the forward positions, Jim Howell at center and Bakari Altheimer and Kyle Bailey at the guards.

The Broncos will be facing Portland State for the first time in program history. Santa Clara has faced Stanford on 72 occasions with the Cardinal taking 49 of those meetings. The Broncos own a 1-0 series edge over Belmont from the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Santa Clara returns home to the Leavey Center Saturday against Chico State. Tipoff against the Wildcats is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Tickets remain available for the 35th annual Cable Car Classic, scheduled for Dec. 28-29 at the Leavey Center.
