Bronco Men Play Final Contest Before Holiday Break

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's basketball team returns home Saturday for the first time since its Nov. 27 win over San Jose State when it takes on Chico State at 7:30 p.m. at the Leavey Center.

All fans attending the game who donate a toy at the door for the "Toys For Tots" program will receive a general admission ticket for $2.

The game will serve as the final contest for the Broncos before a five-day break for the holidays. The Broncos will return to action Friday, Dec. 28 when they play host to the 35th annual Cable Car Classic.

Santa Clara is 1-8 on the season after suffering a 78-71 loss to Belmont at the Stanford Invitational earlier in the week. The Broncos are led by senior Steve Ross' 12.6 points per game, while junior Kyle Bailey has a team-high 4.3 assists per game. Freshman Jordan Legge is the team leader in rebounding with an average of 5.1 per game.

Division II Chico State enters the game with a 3-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the California College Athletic Association. The Wildcats are led by Scott Land, who scores at an average of 13.7 points per game. Lee McCowan and Jon Henderson are also averaging in double-figures with averages of 11.1 and 10.8 points per game, respectively.

Following Saturday's Chico State game, the Broncos will face the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the first round of the Cable Car Classic on Friday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. Detroit, an NIT semifinalist from a year ago, will play UC Santa Barbara in the second game of the first round at 8 p.m. The consolation game and championship are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29.

The Cable Car Classic will serve as the first game for Santa Clara fans to be able to utilize the newly-renovated East side of the Leavey Center. An entirely new interior seating area has been constructed with reserved upper-deck chairback seating and a number of new amenities added.
