Recap| Box Score

Santa Clara head coach Dick Davey

On how the game ended:
"I'm not sure the coaching had anything to do with the outcome, I was trying to call a timeout. Fortunately for us the referees and the players didn't hear me and Kyle was able to drive and hit the shot for us."

On being down by 10 and rallying for the win:
"We had a lot of shots that just weren't falling for us but we told the guys to keep their heads up because when they eventually start to fall our confidence will rise and we will get it going. We did a good job defensively and when our shots did fall eventually, we started to play pretty well."

On turning the corner:
"It's encouraging tonight that we hung in there again tonight. I'm not sure that any of the guys believe that we have turned the corner yet. Tonight was another good step for us in the right direction, but we certainly are not where we want to be at this point. We just need to continue to play hard and look to improve and good things will happen."

Sophomore Kyle Bailey
On hitting the game winner for the second time this season:
"It is the second time this has happened this year. I feel comfortable in that position and try to remain calm. I like to take my time and make sure we create a good look. Although tonight's shot wasn't the best of looks, fortunately for us it went in. We will take any win we can get at this point and will keep playing hard to get some more."

UMBC head coach Tom Sullivan
On how the game turned out:
"I thought it was an excellent game with both teams fighting hard for the win. It came down to two final possessions. We had a good possession and went ahead, and they had an even better one as it turns out, taking the lead with only one second left on the clock. I think it was a good game all around. It should be a shot in the arm for Santa Clara and it will be a shot in the arm as well for us."

On the turning point when UMBC was up 10 in the second half:
"I thought they really picked up their defense when they fell behind at that point. We didn't help ourselves though either as I think we turned the ball over three of the next five possessions. So instead of having that lead going into the final portion of the game, we had a close game that unfortunately, for us, ended up in their favor."
