MORAGA, Calif. (AP) - Cord Anderson scored a layup for his only basket of the game with 2½ seconds left after his twin brother Brad stole a St. Mary's pass as Santa Clara edged St. Mary's 57-56.

Brad Anderson had just scored on a drive with 6.5 seconds to play, cutting the lead to one.

St. Mary's (12-13, 5-7) had to call a timeout as it tried to inbound the ball. On its second try, Daniel Kickert mishandled the pass. Jonathan Sanders retrieved the ball in the corner and threw the ball to midcourt as he fell out of bounds.

Brad Anderson grabbed the ball and fed his twin for the game-winner.

Santa Clara (13-12, 4-8) forced another turnover as St. Mary's tried to inbound the ball and ran out the clock.

Santa Clara took its first lead since a 7-5 margin early in the first half when Brandon Rohe converted a three-point play with 4:00 to play to put the Broncos ahead 48-46.

A basket by Jim Howell and 3-pointer by Ethan Rohde sandwiched around two Samuel Saint-Jean free throws gave Santa Clara a 53-48 lead.

St. Mary's scored eight straight points, including a game-tying 3-pointer by Saint-Jean with 1:46 to play for St. Mary's only basket in the games final 13 minutes.

A free throw by Sanders with 1:17 to play put St. Mary's ahead, and Kickert sank two free throws with 18.4 seconds to play to build the lead to three.

Santa Clara held St. Mary's to 4-of-16 shooting in the second half, but the Gaels hit 19 of 22 free throws during the second half.

Bakari Altheimer had 17 points and Rohe 10 for Santa Clara. Saint-Jean had 22 and Frederic Adjiwanou 17 for St. Mary's.
