Canada Basketball and head coach Jay Triano announced that former Bronco men's basketball standout Steve Ross is included on the 12-man roster that will travel to Turkey on Sunday, July 28, 2002 for an exhibition tournament.
The Canadian squad is in training for the World Championship of Basketball in Indiana and the athletes travelling to Turkey are competing for a spot on that team.
Ross, a 6-7 forward from Victoria, British Columbia, averaged a team-high 15.7 points last season and ended his short Santa Clara career as one of the top outside shooters in school history. He is fifth on the Bronco list for career three-point attempts and sixth in makes in just one-and-a-half seasons after transferring to the Mission Campus from San Diego. He also ended his career as Santa Clara's fourth-best free throw shooter ever.
Ross hopes to join another more well-known former Bronco on the Canadian National Team. NBA all-star Steve Nash was Team Canada's top performer at the 2000 Olympic Games and is one of the most dynamic players on the international level.
