MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - Alex Acker scored 27 points and Glen McGowan scored 21 as Pepperdine beat Santa Clara 93-90 Saturday night.

Acker made 12 of 15 field goals, two of three 3-pointers, and had a pair of key steals late in the game to keep Pepperdine ahead.

Santa Clara's Doron Perkins made a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime, but the replay showed the ball was released too late. Perkins led the Broncos with 27 points.

With the game tied at 78, Acker made a jumper and followed with a steal and a lay-up to put Pepperdine ahead 82-78.

With Santa Clara trailing 85-83, Perkins was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer. He made two of three free throws to tie the game at 85 with 1:12 left.

Acker then drove into a crowded lane and made a lay-up to put the Waves up to stay.

Pepperdine (12-14, 7-4 Big West Conference) shot 58 percent from the field and 63 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Patrick scored 19 points for Santa Clara and made five of nine 3-point attempts. Travis Niesen and Kyle Bailey scored 13 apiece.

Yakhouba Diawara had 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds for Pepperdine.
