SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's basketball program announced the signing of junior college forward Tristan Parham to join the Broncos this fall, according to head coach Dick Davey.
He joins two previous prep additions for the Broncos during the NCAA's early signing period last fall - 5'-11" point guard Brody Angley from Redding, Calif. and 6'-7" forward Mitch Henke from Minnetonka, Minn. - as Santa Clara's incoming class to date. The NCAA spring basketball signing period began April 14 and ends May 19.
Parham, a 6'-8" forward from Dolton, Ill, has played the last two seasons at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College and helped lead the team to a fifth-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championships in March. He averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while shooting .554 from the field and blocking a team-leading 19 shots as a sophomore last season.
Coffeyville went 31-6 last season under coach Jay Herkelman and defeated Chipola JC by a score of 69-55 to end its run in the NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. In 2002, Coffeyville finished second in the NJCAA championships and is the only junior-college team in the nation to place in the tournament in the last three years. In 2004, Coffeyville led the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) in scoring defense, allowing just over 60 points per game.
"Tristan will be a solid addition to our program," said Santa Clara Head Coach Dick Davey. "He provides us quickness and athleticism in the interior, which was a focus in our recruiting efforts this winter. Tristan played in a high level junior college program in Coffeyville that has experienced a great deal of success. So, he knows what it takes to win games."
As a prep, Parham attended Thornridge High School in Dolton, Ill, where he played for coach Mike Flaherty and helped the Falcons compile a 62-24 record in three seasons and advance to two regional playoff appearances. He was a second-team all-Chicagoland area selection, despite suffering a minor knee injury early in his senior season. A highlight during his senior season was a 14-point, 12-rebound effort in a win over highly-rated Joliet (Ill.) while playing only half the game after coming back from injury.
