SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's basketball program announced the signing of two high school seniors to national letters of intent during the early singing period that ended in mid-November. Point guard Brody Angley from Redding (Calif.) Enterprise High School and Mitch Henke from Minnetonka (Minn.) Hopkins High School will be freshmen for the Broncos when school begins in September.
"We are really pleased to have Brody and Mitch join our program," said Santa Clara Head Coach Dick Davey. "Both of these young men are quality people as well as good basketball players and I think they will fit into this institution and our program quite well. They both are very competitive and demand a great deal from themselves and their teammates and that is a trait that we place a very high value on. I think they both have a chance to fit into our plans right away as freshmen next year."
Angley, a two-time all-Northern Section pick and the section's MVP last season, is rated as one of the top 15 prep point guards on the West Coast by Sports Illustrated has led Enterprise High School in scoring, three-pointers, assists, steals and blocks in each of the last two seasons. During the summer, he led the Chico Tar Heels to upper division finishes at several AAU tournaments. As a football play, Angley is the Northern Section's all-time leader in rushing yards (4,650), points (527) and touchdowns (74) and was the section's MVP as a senior.
Henke is a three-year starter at small forward for Hopkins High School and has helped lead his team to a 55-7 record, a state title and a third-place finish the last two seasons. This season, Hopkins is ranked second in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and, through the first five games of the season, he is leading the metro in scoring with an average of 25.4 points per game. A two-time all-conference performer, Henke averaged 10 points, five rebounds and two assists per game as a junior and played for the Minnesota Magic summer team that finished third in the AAU national championships. He plays for coach Ken Novak at Hopkins.
