Quotes - Santa Clara vs. Saint Mary;s

Recap |  Final Stats

Dick Davey, on game: "Both teams played awfully hard and it was a great college basketball game tonight. It is such a great environment when these two teams play each other. Last year they beat us three times and we came back and got a tough win tonight. These games with Saint Mary's are always close."

Davey, on moving into second all-time in wins in WCC history: "Santa Clara has been very good to me and has shown great loyalty and I really appreciate that. To reach a milestone like this you have to have longevity and I have been lucky enough to have spent 15 years as head coach here."

John Bryant, on getting win over Saint Mary's: "It was a great win for us. All week the coaches have talked about this rivalry and then some of the alumni that were here tonight talked to us before the game and got us more pumped up to got out and play well."

Bryant, on getting ball inside: "Our focus tonight was to get the ball inside and the guards did a great job giving Sean (Denison) and me good passes. We were able to score some points and help the team."

Sean Denison, on big scoring night: "I got the ball in a lot of good spots tonight and I was able to finish. I was able to find some openings in their defense and the guys just found me."

Denison, on his big games against Saint Mary's: "It is a big rivalry and I enjoy playing against them. I have had some success against them in the past but tonight I came out and wanted to make sure that I left everything on the court. I worked as hard as I could to help us win and we were able to do that."

Brody Angley, on motivation for Saturday's game: "We had a lot of extra motivation tonight. We lost against Air Force last week and Saint Mary's beat us three times last year so we wanted to come back from that. However, what really got us motivated was that the alumni talked to us before the game and told us about the importance of beating Saint Mary's. Ron Reis and Lloyd Pierce (current assistant coach) gave some good speeches and we were ready to go after that."

Angley, on bouncing back from the Gaels' 15-0 run: "We had a little drought but we ground through it and got back in the game. Our league is going to be like that every night. We know that no game will be easy and coming back from that kind of run was a good confidence boost for us."
