Quotes - WCC Championship Game, Santa Clara vs. Gonzaga

Recap |  Final Stats

Head coach Dick Davey, on game: "My respect goes out to Gonzaga. Mark Few and his staff have done a tremendous job this year. This may be our last game although we hope that it is not. I have a lot of respect and admiration for our team this year and they way that they played all season long. They played hard and with a lot of energy every game."

Davey, on shooting: "We were shooting at a pretty good clip at the beginning of the game, but it is hard to keep that up. Starting with about five minutes left in the first half, we did not shoot the ball that well. That hurt us tonight."

Davey, on postseason chances: "We are probably going to go back to practice on Thursday and see what happens with getting an NIT berth. We are going to practice with that idea in mind."

Davey, on emotions at the end of the game: "I don't want this to be about me. I want it to be about the kids. They have played hard all year."

Sean Denison, on game: "They played us pretty tight and they got up on us so we could not get easy shots. We did have enough open looks in the second half, but we did not knock them down. The team played a good game, but we had some stretches where we weren't scoring and it felt like we were playing a lot of defense."

Scott Dougherty, on Gonzaga's defense: "I have to credit Gonzaga for slowing us down tonight. They really got up on our shooters and they also played tough inside. All around, they played well on defense and made us take tough shots."

Dougherty, on last two games vs. Gonzaga: "Tonight we lost. That is really the main difference. There is not one specific key to why they beat us tonight except that they did the little things better than us tonight. The thing about basketball is that it takes a whole bunch of different things to win and you have to credit them for playing well."
