SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - John Bryant had 10 points and nine rebounds in helping Santa Clara beat Colgate 53-39 on Thursday night in an opening round game of the Cable Car Classic.

Danny Pariseau added 11 points as the Broncos (10-4) won their fifth straight at home. Calvin Johnson also scored 10 for Santa Clara.

Kendall Chones scored 11 to lead the Raiders (5-6), which lost for the third time in four games. Colgate's leading scorer Jon Simon was held to a season-low three points.

Santa Clara will meet the winner of a later game between No. 23 Air Force and George Washington in Friday's championship game.

The Raiders scoring woes continued into the second half. During a 23-minute stretch that spanned both halves, the Broncos outscored Colgate 36-16.

Santa Clara helped keep the Raiders in the game, making just five of its first 18 shots in the second half. The Raiders drew within 43-35 when Dan Gentile hit a jumper with 5:17 remaining to play.

That was as close as they came the rest of the game.

Colgate grabbed the early lead but suddenly went cold from the field, scoring eight points over the final 12:32 of the first half. The Raiders went scoreless over a five minute span after opening a 10-7 advantage.

The Broncos jumped on the opportunity to build a 17-point into the final minutes of the half, riding a 24-2 run.

Colgate scored the half's final four points to pull within 31-18 at the intermission.
