The Broncos, who played three of their first four WCC contests on the road, host No. 23/24 Saint Mary's on Sat., Jan. 21 at 8 pm in a COMCAST California broadcast.  The regionally televised game will be called by Dave Benz and Stan Morrison.  After having Thursday off, Santa Clara begins an eight day stretch on Saturday with four games: SMC on Sat., Jan. 21 at 8 pm; vs. LMU on Mon., Jan. 23 at 7 pm; vs. USF at 8 pm on Thurs., Jan. 26; and then at Pepperdine on Sat., Jan. 28.

The two long-time Bay Area rivals are playing for the 211th time in school history.  Santa Clara leads the all-time series 131-79, including 62-24 at home.  The 211 meetings are the most the Broncos have faced a team in 105 years of Bronco basketball.  Saint Mary's won its first meeting with the Broncos 21-18 on Feb. 26, 1910.  Saint Mary's won both games during the regular season last year (at 84-59 on Jan. 15; vs. 65-59 on Feb. 10) and then defeated the Broncos 71-64 in the semi-finals of the WCC Tournament on March 6.  Saint Mary's swept the season series in 2010 on the way to winning the WCC title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16.  The two teams won on their home floors to split the series in 2008-09.

Santa Clara is 8-9 and 0-4 in the WCC this season after falling 84-74 at Portland Jan. 5; 82-60 at No. 25 Gonzaga on Jan. 7; 75-62 vs. San Diego on Jan. 12 and then 95-78 at BYU on Jan. 14.

Saint Mary's, 17-2 and 6-0 in the WCC and ranked in the top 25 this season for the first time, are No. 23 in the USA Today/ESPN poll and No. 24 in the AP poll. The Gaels host Pepperdine on Thursday night before traveling to the Mission Campus on Saturday.  The Gaels early-season WCC results include home-win whippings of BYU (98-82, Dec. 29) and then-No. 21/23 Gonzaga (83-62, Jan. 12).
