Santa Clara Announces 2013 Men’s Basketball Signees

Santa Clara head men's basketball coach Kerry Keating announced the 2013 Bronco signing class on Thurs., Nov. 15. The 2013 Santa Clara class includes Jared Brownridge (Aurora, Ill.), Jarvis Pugh (Murphy, Texas) and Jalen Richard (San Tan Valley, Ariz). 

"Obviously with what we are preparing to replace at the guard positions with this class, there is a high bar set," said Keating.  "The coaching staff is excited and confident with this group, joining the returning players to carry our program into the future."

The 2013 Bronco Men's Basketball class includes:

Jared Brownridge
A 6-1 senior guard from Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Ill.  His junior year, Jared averaged 20.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 steals a game. He knocked down 58 from beyond the arc and scored 31 and 30 points in his final two games in the postseason last March, respectively. Entering his senior year he was eight points shy of 1,000 career points.

"We are extremely excited to add someone of Jared's caliber, but more important Jared's character," said Keating. "He is someone we targeted very early on and we are excited to add a player of high caliber that plays at such a high level. He comes well-prepared having been coached by a former college coach, Steve Weemer, and also having been involved in a highly successful AAU program with the Illinois Wolves led by Mike Mullins."

Jarvis Pugh
Jarvis is a 6-5 senior wing player from Murphy, Texas. Jarvis attends Plano East High School in Plano, Texas.  He leads the 10th-ranked team in the state of Texas and he is regarded as one of the elite defenders in the state of Texas.  He is currently ranked No. 57 in the state of Texas.

"We are equally excited about Jarvis and his potential as a key player and as an integral figure in our Bronco family," said Keating.  "Jarvis brings great athleticism and length as a big wing to our program. Jarvis had an outstanding summer under the direction of George Clay and his ProSkills program.  We are very excited to watch his continued development and hoping they have a very successful season under the newly hired Jeff Clarkston, who is in his first year with Plano East." 

Jalen Richard
Jalen is a 6-3 senior guard from suburbs of Phoenix, Ariz. (San Tan Valley, Ariz.).  Jalen attends Poston Butte High School.  His junior year Jalen led his high school team to the state quarter-finals as he posted 23 ppg, 6 rpg, 5 apg and 1 bpg.  Entering his senior year, Jalen is was a 1st team All State once, a 2nd team All State player once and a two-time 1st team All Region performer. His performance best in high school included 48 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

"Jalen brings a tremendous passion for basketball and consistent improvement that will instantly be contagious for this class," sad Keating.  "He possesses an ability to impact the game in many ways and I expect him to do great things in his career here.  We really enjoyed watching Jalen have an outstanding summer with the highly-regarded Arizona Magic Pump N Run program, led by Jeff de Laveaga.  It is very impressive to see Jalen in such a good program at Poston Butte with Noel Nafszinger and we look forward to following their success this season."
