SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In spite of Kevin Foster's 29 points to move him past 2,000 career points scored, Santa Clara fell 81-74 to No. 10 Gonzaga on Saturday at the Leavey Center.  The announced attendance of 4,907 was a Leavey Center record.

Kelly Olynyk scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help 10th ranked Gonzaga hold off a stubborn Santa Clara team in the West Coast Conference matchup.  No. 10 Gonzaga improved to 15-1 (2-0 WCC) while Santa Clara fell to 12-4 (1-1 WCC).

Foster scored 29 points to lead the Broncos, including his 2,000th career point on a runner in the lane early in the second half. Marc Trasolini added 19 points scoring 14 in the second half to help keep the Broncos close. Evan Roquemore added 11 points and 7 assists

For the game Santa Clara shot 41% from the field (25-of-61), including 30.4% percent from beyond the arc (7-of-23).  The Broncos collected 32 rebounds, 5 steals, 14 assists, 4 blocks and 8 turnovers.  Gonzaga shot 55.3% from the field (26-of-47), including 22.2% percent from beyond the arc (2-of-9).  The Zags collected 30 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 blocks, 11 assists and 9 turnovers.

Olynyk started the game with a dunk on the tip at 19:43.  Trasolini answered with a three at 18:47.  Harris scored a pair of free throws and Bell scored a jumper to make it 6-3 Zags at 18:15.

A Roquemore three tied it 6-6 at 17:28.  Foster scored at 16:07 and 14:33 to make it 10-8 Broncos.  The teams traded baskets a few times before two GU free throws at 12:14 made it 18-15 Zags.

Foster's bucket inside pulled SCU within three, 22-19 Zags at 8:41.  GU went on a 5-0 run , but Foster answered with a three at 7:25.  Cowels III bucket inside made it 29-28 Zags at 6:06

The Zags scored twice inside to go up 35-30 at 3:38.  Roquemore missed a pair of free throws at 3:38 and Olynyk scored his 15th point of the game at 3:04, 37-30 Zags.

Cowels III scored inside to pull the Broncos closer, down 37-33 at 2:02.  Harris answered with an inside bucket, 39-33 at 1:44. 

Roquemore hit a free throw with 4.7 seconds left in the half to make it 41-34 Gonzaga at halftime. 

Santa Clara shot 42.9 percent from the field (12 of 28), including 42.9 percent from beyond the arc (6 of 14).  The Broncos collected 12 rebounds, one steal, two blocks, nine assists, two blocks and four turnovers.  Gonzaga shot 55.6 percent from the field (15 of 27), including 28.6 percent from beyond the arc (2 of 7).  The Zags collected 18 rebounds, two steals, one block, six assists, one block and four turnovers.

Santa Clara was led by Foster's 17 points in the first half and the Zags' Olynyk led them with 17 points.  Foster moved to No. 7 on the WCC all-time points scored list, passing LMU's Keith Smith (1,980, 1982-86). 

Foster scored a bucket early and then a pair of free throws to open the second half.  He scored a basket at 18:40 to collect his 2,000th career point. He is the first player Bay Area player in 21 years to score 2,000 career points and the fourth overall. The last was Adam Keefe of Stanford (2,116 from 1989-92).

Trasolini scored three straight Broncos baskets, including a dunk on Olynyk to make it 48-46 Zags at 15:41.

B. Clark's three at 13:24 brought SCU within one, 52-51 Zags.  Robert Garrett fouled out at 12:07.   GU went on a 12-4 run and led 64-56 at 7:45 in the second half.  Foster scored inside at 6:49 to collect his 25th point of the night.  Trasolini was fouled going to the hoop at 6:24 and he sank both to make it 64-60 Zags.

The Zags scored four, including a couple of free throws to push their lead to eight, 68-60. Harris picked up his fourth foul on Foster at 4:52 and he sank both to make it 68-62.  Olynyk scored a pair of free throws at 4:30.  Foster scored again inside at 4:09, 70-64 Zags.

 After Atanga blocked a shot by Olynyk Atanga scored inside and Olynyk matched him.  Zags 72-66 at 2:09.  Roquemore sank a pair of free throws and Olynyk came back inside again, scoring his 31st of the game, 74-68 Zags at 1:37. 

Atanga fouled out with 52.8 left on the clock and Olynyk sank both to put GU up 76-68.  Cowels III slashed inside to score with 44.9 left. 

Pangos hit a couple free throws with 42 seconds and Roquemore dunked it at 36.8, 78-72 Zags.  Roquemore hit both free throws with 17 seconds left, 79-74 Zags.
