Broncos To Collect Donations For Red Cross/Typhoon Haiyan Efforts At SJSU Basketball Doubleheader Tuesday

With a massive relief effort ongoing in the Philippines due to Thyphoon Haiyan this past weekend, Santa Clara University announced Monday it will collect donations for the Red Cross before, during and after its doubleheader with San Jose State University on Tues., Nov. 12.  The women will play at 5:30 pm with the men's game tipping at 8:15 pm.  Both games are being hosted in the Leavey Center at Santa Clara University.

Santa Clara will have four stations to take collections for the Red Cross with the money being donated directly to those in need because of Typhoon Haiyan.  Santa Clara will have a collection station at the front door, another at the Bronco merchandise table, a third at the Ruff Riders entrance and will also be taking a collection from the Bronco Bench Foundation Bistro at halftime.

"Please join the Santa Clara Basketball family in doing whatever we can to help those in need as a result of this terrible disaster," said Bronco head coach Kerry Keating.  "Any level of support will help and hopefully our collective donation can be of some assistance to any in need. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this disaster."

"Any support and relief we can supply to the people affected by this tragic event is crucial," said Bronco head women's basketball coach Jennifer Mountain. "There are thousands in need and if we can provide an outlet for those to reach out and help then I think this is beneficial."

Whether you are a Bronco fan or a fan of the visiting Spartan teams, the donations will be appreciated with so many in desperate need of help.

"The very best thing about Santa Clara is how it instills in everyone it touches a genuine concern for others and a desire to lend a hand to those most in need in the world," said Bronco Athletic Director Dan Coonan.  "We are happy to create a vehicle through which people can support victims of this tragedy."

If you can't make the game, but would like to donate – you can stop by the Bronco ticket office on Tuesday from 9 am – 5 pm to give your donation.
