After a lot of discussion the last six months, Santa Clara Bronco's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, known as SAAC, is proud to roll out the first inaugural "Bronco Bowl". The Bronco Bowl was introduced in a video hosted by co-SAAC President's Nici Gilday and Andrew Papenfus at Santa Clara's Welcome Back Night for the Bronco Student-Athletes on Tues., Oct. 7. The Bronco Bowl is an internal competition among the 19 teams to increase and strengthen the Bronco Student athlete experience, enhance Bronco Pride and highlight the achievements made by individual athletes and teams.
"We are super excited about introducing the Bronco Bowl! We wanted to create something to increase unity, support, and awareness about all the awesome things student-athletes are doing," said Gilday. "We hope it becomes another great SCU tradition for years to come."
"We are really excited about the Bronco Bowl because of its potential to help increase the over all school spirt and help raise attendance for all our sports starting within our own athletes which will hopefully spill over and catch on with our students," said Papenfus. "Our goal is to try and make games more fun with more participation and better fan support."
Throughout the year, student-athletes earn points by participating in community service projects, attending personal and career development events, excelling academically and athletically, supporting other athletic teams and participating in SAAC and University sponsored events. At the end of the academic year, the team with the highest point average per team member wins the Bronco Bowl prize.
The competition officially began on Wed., Oct. 8 and it will end in late May of 2015. Each team will have a SAAC rep that is in charge of accumulating team's points. Regarding social media, the teams will post pictures supporting other teams and post on Instagram and Twitter with the correct handle (@SCUBroncos and @SCU_SAAC). They will uses the hashtag, #BroncoBowl and also note the number of student-athletes in attendance.
There will be an update on point's every month at SAAC which will then be aired on the EyeBronco production, Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap, to keep everyone up to date.

1. Academic Excellence Points will be awarded to teams based on the following criteria:
Academic All-American (500 points per person); Academic All-WCC (250 points per person); Other Academic Awards (150 points per person) including the Senior Awards
WCC/NCAA and Academic Awards Include:
SCU Graduation Distinction Awards (Valedictorian, St Claire Medal etc.); 4.0 GPA (50 points per person); 3.99-3.5 GPA (30 points per person); 3.49-3.0 GPA (20 points per person); Top Team GPA Award (100 points per team)
2. Athletic Excellence Points will be awarded to teams based on the following criteria:
NCAA National Championship (1,000 points per team/National Champion); WCC Tournament Championship (150 points person); Post Season Championship (200 points person)
Individual Awards Include:
National Player of the Year (500 per National Player of the Year); All-American Selection (350 points per All-American); All-Region Selection (250 points per All-Region selection); WCC Player/Freshman of the Year (200 points per WCC Player/FR of the Year); All-WCC Selection (150 points per All-WCC Selection); WCC Player of the Week (100 points per WCC Player of the Week); SCU Senior Awards (150 points per award)
3. Campus Involvement Points (SAAC Rep report) will be awarded to teams based on the following criteria:
Leadership Position held for any campus organization/project: Campus Ministry, ASG, Clubs, Eye Bronco, SAAC Leadership etc. (150 pts per position); Attendance at on/off campus events: Theatre, ISLE, BAWSI etc. (50 pts per person per event)
4. Community Service Points (report through Instagram) will be awarded to teams based on the following criteria:
Participation in any community service activity (150 points per event/day)
5. Career Development Points (report through Instagram) will be awarded to teams based on the following criteria:
Schedule and attend one and one apt. w/career services (10 points per person per hour); Attendance at Career Series Workshops (10 points per person)
6. Athletes Supporting Athletes Points (report through Instagram) will be awarded to teams based on the following criteria:
Attendance to another team's home sporting event (10 points per person per event); Attendance to another team's away sporting event (15 points per person per event); Represent Game Attendance (20 points per person per event)
