SANTA CLARA, Calif. — On this week's edition of the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap, Denzel Johnson and Nici Gilday welcome SCU students back to campus and recap the weekend's play for men's and women's basketball against Portland and Gonzaga.
Women's basketball defeated Portland 83-68 Thu., Jan 8 to give JR Payne her first WCC victory as a head coach. The Broncos battled hard, but lost to Gonzaga 78-70 two days later. Gilday is joined by teammate Morgan McGwire to talk about the season and the team's recent stretch of close games.
Men's basketball faced Portland and Gonzaga on its road trip to the Northwest, and Matt Hubbard got a chance to play in front of friends and family at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Colville, Wash. native — who grew up roughly 70 miles north of Spokane — sat down with Johnson to talk about his success as a freshman and having a familiar crowd watch him in action.
No. 56 men's tennis begins its spring season Sat., Jan. 17 against UC Santa Cruz at 10 a.m. and Sonoma State at 2:30 p.m. at Santa Clara's Degheri Tennis Center.
