Men's Basketball Hires Mike Peck as Assistant Coach

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's basketball head coach Kerry Keating, entering his ninth year leading the Broncos, announced the hiring of Mike Peck as an assistant coach Wednesday. Peck comes to the Mission campus from the NBA Development League where he was the head coach of the Idaho Stampede, the Portland Trail Blazers affiliate. Peck has coached under the tutelage of Terry Stotts, the head coach of the Trail Blazers, Jay Triano, an assistant for the Trail Blazers and Canadian National Team Head Coach, Lon Kruger, the head coach at the University of Oklahoma, and former UNLV head coach Charlie Spoonhour.

"I'm excited to add Mike to our staff, especially given his experience as a head coach at different levels," Keating said. "Having built a highly successful program at Findlay and also having the opportunity with the NBA D-League will help provide our players with yet another great mentor and coach who can improve them on and off the floor. His time in basketball has afforded him a chance to make many connections across the country that will also strengthen our program and staff."

"I am thrilled to be joining Coach Keating and his staff at Santa Clara University," Peck said. "I've had tremendous opportunities in the past and this was another chance to be a part of something special. Coach Keating has a clear vision for the future of the Broncos and I am humbled to be a part of his plan."

Peck coached with the Trail Blazers for consecutive preseason training camps in 2012-13. He has coached and developed 15 current NBA players including 2013 No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett and 2011 No. 4 overall pick Tristan Thompson.

From 2006-12, Peck was the head coach at Findlay Prep of Henderson (Nevada) International School. During his five seasons, Peck led the Pilots to a 157-8 record, including National Championships in 2009, 2010, and 2012, with a national runner-up in 2008. In 2009, he was one of five finalists for the Naismith High School Coach of the Year award. Peck has coached seven McDonald's All-Americans and every graduate of Findlay has been an NCAA Division I qualifier in their freshman year of college.

Prior to his time at Findlay, Peck spent three years as the Video Coordinator at UNLV. From 1998-2003, Peck was an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University. During the 1997-98 season, he was an assistant at Northwood University. His coaching career started in 1996-97 as a Graduate Assistant at Saginaw Valley State.

Peck graduated from Northwood University with a degree in Business Administration in 1993 and received his Masters of Education from Saginaw Valley State in 1998.
