Santa Clara is in its first year under Herb Sendek who was hired in March as the school's 15th head coach. The Broncos return their top eight scorers from a season ago, but are missing a couple of those regulars. The returners are headlined by two-time first-team All-West Coast Conference guard Jared Brownridge, who is already the second-leading scorer in school history with 1,757 points. KJ Feagin, a WCC All-Freshman team pick last season, will join Brownridge in the backcourt, though he is currently out of action indefinitely due to injury. Feagin averaged 11.4 points and 3.8 assists per game in 2015-16. Forward Nate Kratch, a two-year starter, ranked fifth in the WCC in rebounding (7.9 pg) and was third on the team in scoring (8.8 ppg) in 2015-16.

A number of other veterans also return in hopes of helping the program rebound from last year's 11-20 mark. Junior guard Kai Healy started 22 of the team's 31 games, averaging 6.1 points. Junior forward Matt Hubbard, a 2014-15 WCC All-Freshman team selection, posted 6.1 points nearly three rebounds per contest last season. Guard Matt Hauser and forward Henrik Jadersten, both true freshmen last year, should provide an outside shooting threat. Hauser shot nearly 36 percent from behind the 3-point line and Jadersten was among the league leaders in that category until late last season. Junior forward Jarvis Pugh, relegated to only 10 games last year due to injury, is expected to provide an athletic presence and rebounding. Sophomore guard Evan Wardlow was another player who suffered through injury last year. He led the team with a 2.1-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, but was limited to just seven games.

In addition to Feagin, Wardlow (hamstring) is on the shelf and Hubbard, who had offseason ankle surgery, has been limited to 21 minutes in the first three games.

Quick Hits...
• Santa Clara and Northern Colorado are meeting for the second time. The Broncos downed the Bears, 87-84, on Nov. 23, 2010, in Leavey Center in a preliminary round game of the Las Vegas Classic. Saturday's matchup features a pair of new head coaches. In addition to Herb Sendek, Northern Colorado's Jeff Linder is in his first season.
Jared Brownridge, a preseason All-WCC choice, moved from fifth to second on the school's all-time scoring list (1,757 points) during the first two games of the season. He passed Brian Jones (1,722/1996-01), Harold Keeling (1981-85/1,731) and Kurt Rambis (1976-80/1,736). Brownridge has a ways to go to reach all-time leader Kevin Foster (2008-13), who had 2,423 points.
• Brownridge, Matt Hauser, Nate Kratch and Jarvis Pugh have started all three games. Brownridge, Hauser and Pugh are all averaging 34-plus minutes per game.

Scouting Northern Colorado...
The Bears went 10-21 a year ago, including 7-9 in the Big Sky Conference, and return just one starter in sophomore guard Jordan Davis who is averaging 23.5 points per game this season. The Bears are 1-1 on the year, falling at Butler, 89-52, on Saturday and defeating Colorado Christian, 94-73, on Wednesday. Anthony Johnson and Tanner Morgan, both starters last season, are redshirting this year. Head coach Jeff Linder is in his first season, coming from Boise State where he served as the associate head coach.
