West Coast Conference Announces 2017-18 Men’s Basketball Schedule

2017-18 Schedule

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The Santa Clara 2017-18 men's basketball schedule has been completed with Tuesday's announcement of the 18-game West Coast Conference slate, which features games each Thursday and Saturday from late December to the end of February.

After 12 nonconference games, the Broncos open league play on Dec. 28 at home against Pepperdine before traveling to Gonzaga two days later in just the team's second true road contest of the season (at USC on Dec. 14).

Santa Clara, heading into season two under head coach Herb Sendek, will be tested early in WCC play as two of its first eight contests come against Gonzaga, which reached the 2017 NCAA title game. The teams play on Jan. 20 at Leavey Center, which caps a stretch of four of five at home.

After opening a three-game homestand against Portland (Jan. 6), the Broncos face Saint Mary's (Jan. 11) and BYU (Jan. 13) in a three-day span.

The second-half of the league schedule features home games against rival San Francisco (Feb. 3) and a tilt vs. LMU (Feb. 22) in the final game in Leavey Center for the Santa Clara seniors, but the tough stretch that includes four of the final six on the road.

That stretch starts with a road meeting against BYU on Feb. 8 and concludes with the regular-season finale at Saint Mary's on Feb. 24, finishing off nine straight weeks of WCC contests for all 10 teams.

Santa Clara splits home and away games during five weeks of league play, and has all home or road contests during the other four weeks. This is the second-straight year the conference slate will not feature travel partners to accommodate the schedule window.

The WCC Tournament is set for March 1-6 in Las Vegas.

The Broncos will prepare for the league schedule with nonconference home games against perennial postseason participants Nevada and Valparaiso, and local rival San Jose State, along with an appearance in the GCI Great Alaska Shootout.

Santa Clara plays eight nonconference home contests, including the regular-season opener on Nov. 10 at against La Verne.

The Broncos have one exhibition game, facing Saint Vincent College on Nov. 3 in Leavey Center.

All game times will be announced once the WCC finalizes the broadcast schedule, which is expected within a month.
