Men's Basketball Finishes Off Homestand, Faces Rival San Francisco Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball finishes a two-game homestand on Saturday when the rival San Francisco Dons visit Leavey Center. Tipoff, in a game presented by LuxBus America, is set for 8 p.m.

The Broncos lost to Pacific on Thursday after picking up a road win against Pepperdine on Saturday.

The Dons are coming off a pair of road losses to the top teams in the West Coast Conference, falling to Saint Mary's on Saturday and Gonzaga on Thursday.

• The teams entered Thursday's game tied for fifth in the WCC standings, but Pacific controlled nearly from start to finish. Miles Reynolds posted a career-high tying 23 points and Lafayette Dorsey came off the bench to score 14 for the Tigers in their 63-45 win over Santa Clara. Junior guard KJ Feagin scored 21 points and senior guard/forward Henry Caruso added 10 for the Broncos who were held to 32 percent from the floor and were out-rebounded 40-26.
• Caruso scored a season-high 23, Feagin tallied 18 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and senior center Emmanuel Ndumanya posted his first-career double-double (13 points/10 rebounds) to lead the Broncos to a convincing 73-59 win over Pepperdine. Santa Clara shot 55 percent from the field, its best performance in WCC play this season, including a 10-for-21 effort behind the 3-point line.
• Feagin ranks fifth in the WCC in scoring (17.4 ppg) and ninth in assists (3.7 pg). Caruso is second on the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and first with 6.7 rebounds per game (No. 7 in the league). Freshman forward Josip Vrankic is third on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.1 pg). Junior guard Matt Hauser, who has missed the last two games with a foot injury, is averaging 9.8 ppg and ranks fourth in the WCC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2-to-1). Feagin (2.3) and Hauser (2.0) rank fifth and 10th, respectively, in the WCC in 3-pointers per game.
• Caruso is one of only two players in the WCC to rank in the top 20 in scoring (17th), and top 10 in rebounds, steals (fifth - 1.3 pg) and FT percentage (10th - 80.6). Guard Elijah Bryant of BYU is second in scoring (18.5 ppg), eighth in rebounding (6.4 pg), eighth in steals (1.3 pg) and first in FT percentage (89.2).

YEAR TWO UNDER SENDEK
The Broncos are in their 111th year of existence, including second under Herb Sendek, who has been successful in each of his three previous head-coaching stops. With a resume that includes 18 postseason appearances and three conference coach of the year awards, Sendek, was one of the three youngest coaches with 400 or more career victories He is in his 24th season as a collegiate head coach with stops at Arizona State, North Carolina State and Miami (Ohio).

• The Broncos have generally held on to the ball, registering just 11.4 turnovers per game and possessing a +1.9 turnover margin (first in the WCC).
• Santa Clara and San Francisco are the two lowest scoring teams in the WCC, but the Dons are one of the better defensive teams. USF is ninth in scoring (68.3 ppg) and the Broncos are 10th (66.7). The Dons rank fourth in the league in defensive field-goal percentage (43.6), including third on 3-pointers (33.0).
• San Francisco averages 8.5 pg 3-pointers per game (third in the WCC) and Santa Clara 8.0 (sixth in WCC). The Dons have taken the most 3-pointers (615) in the WCC.
• Freshman guard Souley Boum leads USF in scoring (13.0 ppg) and ranks eighth in the WCC in 3-point FG percentage (42.5). The Dons have eight players averaging between 14 and 30 minutes per game.

THE SAN FRANCISCO SERIES
The series began in 1908 and the Broncos hold a 115-107 lead. The 222 meetings are the second-most of any Santa Clara opponent (224 vs. Saint Mary's). The Broncos have won three of the last four, including a 65-62 road win on Jan. 18, and a 76-69 victory in the 2017 WCC Tournament, which sent Santa Clara to the league semifinals for the first time since 2011.

TRENDS
Emmanuel Ndumanya has posted the two highest point totals of his career in the last three games (career-high 15 vs. San Diego, Jan. 25; 13 vs. Pepperdine, Jan. 27). He has shot 20 of 35 from the floor (57.1 percent) in the last eight games ... the Broncos are 7-4 this season when shooting more than 40 percent from the floor ... Santa Clara has posted 21 of its 47 blocks in the last five games, including a season-best six vs. Pacific (Feb. 1) ... KJ Feagin has reached double figures in 20 of the team's 23 games (nine points vs. Gonzaga, Dec. 30; nine points vs. BYU, Jan. 13; nine points vs. San Diego, Jan. 25) ... Feagin has nine of the team's 15 20-point scoring games this year ... a career 54 percent free-throw shooter, Ndumanya has made 25 of his last 31 from the line (83.3 percent) ... Henry Caruso has been off the floor for only six minutes in the last four games. He and Kai Healy played all 40 minutes in back-to-back games (San Diego, Jan. 25; Pepperdine, Jan. 27).
